Privacy Policy

Effective date: [EFFECTIVE DATE] · Last updated: [LAST UPDATED]

The short version: ContextKey runs on your device. We don't operate servers, we don't require an account, and we don't collect, store, sell, or share your personal data. Your Signal cards, health readings, calendar details, notes and voice notes stay on your iPhone (and your paired Apple Watch). The keyboard never logs or transmits what you type.

This Privacy Policy explains how the ContextKey app for iPhone, its custom keyboard extension, and its Apple Watch companion app (together, "ContextKey" or the "App") handle information. ContextKey is published by [LEGAL NAME OR ENTITY] ("we," "us," or "our"). If you have questions, email hello@contextkey.app.

1. Our approach: on-device by design

ContextKey has no backend. There is no ContextKey server, database, user account, analytics service, advertising SDK, or crash-reporting service that receives your data. All processing needed to build and insert your context happens locally on your device. Because we never receive your data, we can't view it, sell it, share it, or hand it over to anyone.

2. Information the App accesses on your device

Depending on which Signal cards you turn on, ContextKey may ask iOS for permission to read certain information. Every permission is optional, requested only when you enable a feature that needs it, and can be revoked at any time in iOS Settings. If you decline, the related card simply won't work; the rest of the App will.

DataWhy it's usedWhere it goes
Health data (e.g. heart rate) via Apple HealthKitTo display and inject readings on a Pulse or health-related Signal cardRead on device only. Never sent to us or any third party.
Calendar events via EventKitTo show and inject upcoming events on a Calendar cardRead on device only.
LocationTo fetch local conditions for a Weather cardUsed on device; see Section 4 for how weather is retrieved.
Microphone & speech recognitionFor the optional DICTATE NOTE feature, to turn your voice into text for a cardSee Section 4.
Your Signal card settings, custom text and notesTo build the context you injectStored locally on your device in the App's private storage.

3. The keyboard and "Allow Full Access"

iOS displays a standard warning when a keyboard requests "Full Access." ContextKey's keyboard uses this access only to read your Signal cards and settings from storage shared with the ContextKey app on the same device. ContextKey's keyboard:

Once you insert context into another app (for example, Messages or an AI assistant), that text is handled by that app under its own privacy policy, just like anything else you type.

4. Apple system services

ContextKey relies on Apple frameworks built into iOS and watchOS. Some of these may involve Apple's own services, which are governed by Apple's Privacy Policy, not ours. We never receive this data.

5. Health data

Health data obtained through HealthKit is used solely to provide the Signal card features you turn on. Consistent with Apple's requirements, we do not use HealthKit data for advertising or data mining, we do not sell it, we do not disclose it to third parties, and we do not store it in iCloud. ContextKey only reads health data; it does not write to Apple Health. [DEVELOPER: update if the App writes data to Health.]

6. Data we collect

None. We do not collect personal information through the App. We do not use cookies, trackers, analytics, or advertising identifiers, and we do not track you across apps or websites.

If you email us, we'll receive your email address and whatever you choose to include in your message. We use it only to reply, and we delete it when it's no longer needed.

7. This website

contextkey.app is a static website with no cookies, analytics, or tracking scripts. Our hosting provider may keep standard server logs (such as IP address and browser type) for security and operational purposes, under its own privacy policy.

8. Storage, retention, and deletion

Your data lives on your device in the App's sandboxed storage, protected by iOS encryption. It remains until you delete it in the App or delete the App. Deleting ContextKey removes its locally stored data from your iPhone and Apple Watch. Your device backups (iCloud or computer) are governed by your Apple settings.

9. Sharing and sale of data

We don't sell, rent, or share personal information, because we don't have any. ContextKey does not "sell" or "share" personal information as those terms are defined under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA) or similar U.S. state laws.

10. Your rights

Depending on where you live (including the EU/UK under GDPR, and California and other U.S. states), you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or port your personal data. Since all ContextKey data stays on your device, you can exercise these rights directly: view and edit your data in the App, revoke permissions in iOS Settings, or delete the App. For any other request, email hello@contextkey.app.

11. Children

ContextKey is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

12. Security

Keeping your data on your device, with no server to breach, is our main security measure. We also rely on iOS sandboxing, data protection, and permission controls.

13. Changes to this policy

If we change how ContextKey handles data, we'll update this page and the "Last updated" date. If a change is material (for example, if a future version ever introduced an optional online feature), we'll explain it in the App before it takes effect, and it will be opt-in.
